Directed by Joe Wright

Joe Wright has made four films: Two were adaptations of beloved novels and starred Keira Knightley, and two were terrible (minority opinion on Hanna, represent!). With that in mind, it’s not much of a surprise that Wright’s latest finds him re-teaming with his skinny muse to take on Tolstoy’s epic romantic saga, Anna Karenina’s conceit of confinement providing Wright with the perfect opportunity to combine his gift for adaptation with his flair for artifice and spectacle. But even if the action occurs in the space of an old theater, the trailers suggest that Wright tries to fit most of Russia onto that stage.
